| 07.14.09- ExxonMobil to Launch
"Meeting the world’s growing energy demands will require a multitude of technologies and energy sources. We believe that biofuel produced by algae could be a meaningful part of the solution in the future if our efforts result in an economically viable, low net carbon emission transportation fuel," said Dr. Emil Jacobs, vice president of research and development at ExxonMobil Research and Engineering Company. 07.13.09- Politics may make future of solar energy "small"
SAN FRANCISCO, July 9 (Reuters) - The future of solar energy may be small -- small scale, that is. The climate change and energy policy bill winding its way through the U.S. Congress shows a new federal eagerness to build a renewable energy future, but what specifically to build where is still up for debate. 07.11.09- Energy from Solar Roadways
An Idaho-based company called Solar Roadways has been attempting to solve this energy crisis in its distinctive way. According to Scott Brusaw of Solar Roadways we can counter the energy crisis by adopting a unique method. We can construct Solar Roadways! We can convert 25,000 miles of petroleum-based asphalt highways and byways of the lower 48 states into Solar Roadways! Similar results can be achieved with the parking lots, airports, malls, stadiums and driveways! Read More
07.10.09- Ask your wallet if solar energy is the way
For instance you can find a system at DH Solar of Prairie Du Chien, Wisconsin that uses the same technology to track the sun that its parent company, DH Satellite, uses for their commercial satellite tracking system. That means you will get a better extraction of energy than you would get from a fixed-base system. Their claim that a 3-KWh (kilowatt hour) system can generate all the electric requirements of a 3,200 sq. ft. home in Wisconsin if they use efficient lighting, instantaneous water heating, and "basic" conservation measures. The cost for that setup is $28,980 with installation. If you want to save a few bucks and just buy it in the box it will knock you down to $26,705. The smallest set-up they offer is 2.10 KWh and that will set you back $24,505. You can see their solar panel systems at: www.dhsolar.net/index.htm. Read More
07.09.09- High altitude wind power: an era of abundance?
Kite Gen vision is to implement and market an entirely new concept of power plant, suitable to almost any territory, for the production from renewable source of electrical energy cheaper than from fossil fuels (petroleum, coal, gas), directly competing with present day conventional GigaWatt installations. The energy source, currently untapped and available anywhere, is the powerful altitude wind of the troposphere, channelled through arrays of large tethered power kites cruising at an altitude of 800 / 1 000 m, whose movements are electronically controlled by highly sophisticated sensors and proprietary software. The power kites are anchored to a revolving structure on a vertical axis at ground level, which conveys the energy thus generated. View Video
07.08.09- 3 to 4.3 Billion Barrels of Technically Recoverable Oil Assessed in North Dakota and Montana's Bakken Formation
A U.S. Geological Survey assessment, released April 10, shows a 25-fold increase in the amount of oil that can be recovered compared to the agency's 1995 estimate of 151 million barrels of oil. Technically recoverable oil resources are those producible using currently available technology and industry practices. USGS is the only provider of publicly available estimates of undiscovered technically recoverable oil and gas resources. Read More Copyright © 1996-2009
